año presentando ?Jamón y Queso? un show
(John Speck), guitarra (Adam Zimmon) y looped drums
(Brendan Buckley).
----New York Times
Sink
your chops into Jamon & Queso featuring DJ Le Spam
and the Spam AllStars
New York, NY - Celebrating 20 years of presenting
the best in live entertainment to New York City ,
S.O.B.'S is proud to host a brand new party in the
brand new year.
Jamon
Y Queso
is the brand new party kicking off Friday January 3rd
at 11:00pm. Like the filling of a hot Cuban Sandwich,
from which this party gets its name, Jamon y Queso promises
to be a lickin' licious listening and dance feast.
Already
sending the mercury rising high at a weekly party
in The Little Havana section of Miami, DJ Le Spam
brings his signature brand of funky turntablism, with
live Latin instrumentation, rare spoken word recordings
and ole skool grooves to the always hungry for the
next big thing New
York City club community.
DJ
Le Spam is Andrew Yeomanson, a Brit-Venezuelan guitarist
who paid his dues playing with Haitian band Lavalas
and Cuban Rocker Nil Lara. After much disappointment
as a band musician, Yeomanson took to the turntables.
"I was getting some miserable gigs as guitar
player, you know, going into nsome studio and playing
behind some kid who can't even ----ing sing, but his
daddy's rich. That kind of exhausts you," he
says.
So,
with an anthology of nearly 15,000 Lps and 45s, DJ
Le Spam energizes himself and his audience by pulling
selections of retro Cuban, early New York Salsa, boogaloo,
Southern soul and funk from all over and mixes it
with live alto sax ala AJ Hill, John Speck on trombone,
Adam Zimmon on guitar and Brendan Buckley on looped
drums.
Here's
what some notable audience members had to say about
their experience: "an authentic Miami sound is
being forged by DJ Le Spam and the All Stars"
---Rolling Stone
"DJ
Le Spam sets the tone for the night, splicing and
pasting a bit of bass here, a chunk of drum beats
there from old records while his band follows him
and together they improvise" ----New York Times
"?this
set of jazzy mid-tempo Afro-Cuban jams is tasty and
unprententious." ---Entertainment Weekly Many
food critics will tell you, " Presentation is
everything." Jamon Y
Queso is no exception. The party also features live
artwork by Dominican artist Francisco Rosario soon
to be featured in the Latin Alternative Music Conference
a yearly international music and art festival that
draws an audience of over 20,0000. Also featured is
a screening of rare Cuban film footage making you
feel as though you've stepped right into the Yara
in Havana! Industry insiders are calling Jamon Y Queso
the Latin flavored Giant Step circa 1990.
Be
the first in line to get your fill!
